First Woman Ascends to Top Drill Sergeant Spot
The reporter interviewed Command Sgt. Maj. Teresa L. King, the new drill sergeant; Willie Shelley, a retired command sergeant major who supervised Sergeant Major King; Patrick J. Jones, a public affairs officer at Fort Jackson; and Col. John E. Bessler, Sgt. Major King’s commander in a basic training battalion four years ago.
He asked about her qualifications for the job, about her personal life, what kind of person she is, about women in the army.
He could of asked how she felt receiving this honor and more about the drill school.
